What academic transcripts are required? top

Official transcripts from the last two years are required. We do not accept photocopies, facsimiles, computer generated transcripts or certificates of your degree in place of an official academic transcript. If you are a first-year M.S. student, provide your undergraduate transcript. If you are a Ph.D. candidate, provide your M.S. transcript.

Do I need to provide a translation of my transcripts?top

We require the official transcript in your native language and prefer you include an English translation.

What if my university does not issue transcripts?top

If your school does not issue transcripts, you must provide a signed and department-stamped statement on letterhead from your professor commenting on your academic credentials. Please list courses studied, including dates.

What is the deadline to apply?top

Your application must be completed online by January 31- unless otherwise noted. Only references are given additional three days after the January 31 deadline to be submitted. Transcripts should be mailed by February 14th.

When are awards announced?top

Winners receive a notification letter shortly after the decisions are rendered. Every effort is made to announce awards at the AAPG's annual meeting in April 2012. A current recipient list is provided on this website.

How are the projects scored? top

Scoring is based on the following five areas:

1. Student's academic and employment history

2. Scientific merit of proposal

3. Suitability to program objectives

4. Financial merit of proposal

5. Endorsement by faculty or department advisor.

Our Grants-in Aid Committee consists of 60 geologists and professionals that score and review the projects.
