FundraisingI have been involved with fundraising since I held a muscular dystrophy carnival in my backyard at the age of 10! I can still picture some of the “booths” we had scattered around our yard. My mother had six children at the time and I can only wonder how she managed to help her oldest child take on that challenging task. I don’t remember how much money we raised, but I do remember that I really wanted to help the children with muscular dystrophy. Years later, when our family moved to Norway, I met Chelsea, a lovely 15-year-old girl with muscular dystrophy. She lived across the street from us and I had a ramp built on our house so she could come to visit us in her wheelchair. My children and I had many happy times with Chelsea and her family. It made me smile to think back to my MD carnival, hoping that perhaps I had a small part in helping Chelsea to live a longer, healthier life. Since that carnival years ago, I have been involved with many nonprofit organizations as a volunteer, an executive director, a board member and a donor. The nonprofit sector fills so many needs in our society that it is a privilege to be a part of this community. I also have a deep appreciation for the generosity of donors who give to causes and organizations that are dear to them. Here at the AAPG Foundation, we have a history of prudent handling of gifts to the foundation and a deep commitment to responsible stewardship of the funds we receive. I am amazed at how many students, teachers, geoscience professionals and members of the general public the Foundation has served throughout the years. Influencing these lives is what we do. Please call me if you have anything to discuss regarding the Foundation and fundraising in particular. I look forward to getting to know you! With warm regards, Kathy Wright, Foundation Fundraising Coordinator
