Breaking News from Rebecca Griffin, Administration CoordinatorThe Katrina Emergency Relief Act of 2005, signed into law by President Bush on September 23, 2005, provides the opportunity for a taxpayer to claim, as an income tax deduction, qualified charitable contributions of cash made from August 28, 2005 to December 31, 2005, up to 100% of the taxpayer’s adjusted gross income. Although this law is entitled “The Katrina Emergency Relief Act”, it allows individuals to make a 2005 end of the year gift to public charities, such as the AAPG Foundation. Please note that this does not include donor advised fund gifts or gifts to private foundations and gifts of publicly traded stock. This special giving opportunity ends on December 31. Contact your accountant, lawyer, or tax advisor for your individual benefits regarding this temporary tax benefit. |
