New Members Elected to the AAPG Foundation Corporation and Board

In Houston at the April 10, 2006 meeting of the Members of the Corporation, seven new Regular Members were elected to serve the Corporation.

Newly elected as Regular Members were Robbie Gries, Don O’Nesky, John Shelton, Ray Thomasson, Marta Weeks and Mike Wisda.

Marta Weeks was elected to fill the vacancy created by Marlan Downey and Bll Gipson’s election as Trustee Members on the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. A second replacement is yet to be announced. O’Nesky, Shelton,Thomasson,Wisda and Gries were elected as additional Regular Members expanding Regular membership to twenty, a step taken to broaden and diversify the membership base and provide additional positions for recognizing persons who demonstrate a continuing, significant interest in the Foundation.

The role of the Foundation Corporation is broadly to influence the direction and activities of the Foundation.As such, the Members of the Corporation elect members from their ranks to be Trustees of the Foundation.While not a requirement, all twenty members of the Corporation are also Trustee Associates.

Downey was elected Foundation Trustee to fill the unexpired term of “Bud” Reid, whose untimely death last October was reported in our last newsletter.Gipson was elected Foundation Trustee to replace Jack Threet who will not seek re-election at the expiration of his term, June 30, 2006.

Chairman of the Board Threet, told the Members that because of his advancing years and the pool of highly talented Trustees to replace him, he believed he should not seek re-election for another three years. He said “I have thoroughly enjoyed being a Trustee of the Foundation for the past 12 years and being Chairman for the past 5 years.The support I received from my fellow Trustees, the staff and all our generous friends of the Foundation was always most welcomed and allowed us to pursue proudly, generously, and successfully the mission of the Foundation and assure even more success for the future. I truly look forward to continuing my service to the Foundation as Trustee Emeritus, particularly in the upcoming Financial Campaign.”

The Board of Trustees will elect officers for the ensuing year at their next meeting tentatively set for May 24th.
