GeoConnection Outreach Efforts
-
Outreach to High School Students
- Completed a draft of Careers booklet with input from SEG to incorporate additional geophysics career information and images.
- Outreach to College Students
- Distributed pilot test GeoConnection Packets
- Conducted training sessions for geoscience departments to support the distribution and utility of the packets.
- Collected information on geosciences clubs and student organizations, including contact information, activities, and needs.
- Conducted the “Life in the Field” contest using GeoConnection social networking channels, and collected valuable images and video of field work in the geosciences.
Targeting Community College students
- Worked with Heather MacDonald and the NSF-funded “geo2yc” program to gather information about community college geosciences programs. Attended the Geo2yc meeting in Annandale, VA.
- Participated in ongoing communication with two-year community college faculty, asking for their guidance and sharing AGI resources with them.
AGI Minority Participation Program
- Increased the number of MPP Committee members who act as mentors by one and review committee members by two.
- Created program marketing materials for potential funders.
- Promoted program to increase applicant pool by 25 percent.
- Created an online networking group on Facebook for MPP students.
Geoscience Currents
- Published 23 Geoscience Currents (Currents #18 – 40). Four of these were guest authored by geoscientists from academia and government.

Geoscience Currents Discussion Webinars
Conducted four Geoscience Currents Discussions, which are 15 to 30 minute discussion sessions about recently released Geoscience Currents.
A total of 41 people registered for these webinars, and 24 attended the events.
Web-based registrants and participants were primarily from the U.S., but other countries (e.g. Australia, Nigeria, Canada, Malaysia, Trinidad and Tobago, Mongolia, and Russia) were also represented.
Web-based registrants were evenly distributed between the ages of 26 and 55 years old. Webinar Topics

GeoConnection Webinars
Conducted seven GeoConnection Webinars, which are hour-long sessions that include both presentations and a panel discussion with the speakers. Four of these webinars were part of the GeoConnection Career series webinars.
A total of 19 invited speakers from government, federal agencies, industry, non-profits, and academia presented talks at these webinars.
A total of 543 people registered for these webinars, and 312 attended the events.
Web-based registrants and participants were primarily from the U.S. Non-U.S. registrants hailed from 30 countries, and non-U.S. participants were from Ireland, Great Britain, Canada, Malaysia, Australia, Denmark, Russia, Bolivia, Switzerland, India, and Thailand.
Web-based registrants were evenly distributed between the ages of 26 and 55 years old (18% for each age category), and approximately 12 percent of attendees were under 26 years of age.
