2010 AGI Earth Science Week
At the April 12, 2010 meeting of the AAPG Foundation, the Board of Trustees approved a grant to the American Geological Institute to support the 13th annual Earth Science Week Program – “Exploring Energy”. Earth Science Week was held October 10-16, 2010 and promotes public and professional awareness of Earth Science in education and society.
AGI distributed 16,000 Earth Science Week Toolkits to teachers and geoscientists in 2010. The kits were also sent to AAPG Student Chapters. The toolkit featured geoscience posters, bookmarks, school-year calendar, and electronic disks.
AGI’s, Earth Science Week Update monthly newsletter reached more than 6,500 teachers, students and geoscientist subscribers in the past year. This is a 10% increase from 2009. The newsletter kept Earth Science Week participants up-to-date on the latest information. Also, AAPG was profiled in regularly provided news and information on educational programs and resources of AGI member societies.
