Upon graduation from the University of Chicago, he accepted a position with the Kansas Geological Survey and Kansas University where he spent his entire career, serving both as state geologist and as chairman of the department of geology. He founded the “Treatise of Invertebrate Paleontology” which is an ongoing project at Kansas University. In 1973, the new office building for the Kansas Geological Survey was named the Raymond C. He was a founding member of AAPG, and served as editor of the BULLETIN from 1920 to 1926, during which time he established many of the standards that persist today.
