Harrison C. "Harry" Jamison met his wife-to-be, Joy, at Oregon State College in 1945 upon returning from combat duty with the Navy in the Pacific theater to begin officer's training in the NROTC just before VJ Day. He and Joy became engaged and, following his discharge, married in June 1946. Sadly, their 63-year marriage ended with her death in 2009 in Tucson, Arizona, where Harry still makes his home.

Harry graduated from UCLA in 1949 and joined Richfield Oil Corporation in 1950. During the next 16 years he worked in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, and Alaska. In 1960 he was named exploration supervisor for Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, thus beginning his 37-year adventure with Alaska exploration, development operations and governmental affairs. In 1966 he was named district manager for the newly merged Atlantic Refining and Richfield companied in Anchorage and was thus able to continue his leadership of the teams that explored the North Slope and discovered the Prudhoe Bay field in 1968. He also was instrumental in several earlier discoveries of oil and gas in both on and offshore Cook Inlet.

Subsequently, he progressed through several different positions, including manager of government relations for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, vice president and chief geologist for ARCO's North American Producing Division, district manager for the Rocky Mountain District and manager of exploration for the Western U.S. In 1981 he was asked to form and lead ARCO Exploration Company as president and as senior vice president of Atlantic Richfield Company.

Harry retired from ARCO in 1985 and began a consulting career which took him back to Alaska, as well as to jobs in Japan, China, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Denmark and throughout the U.S. These were some of the most pleasurable and satisfying years of his long career and included a large number of volunteer assignments in both professional and community organizations.

He is a 60-year emeritus member of AAPG, a 27-year member of the AAPG Foundation Trustee Associates, which he served as chairman in 1991, a long-time member of the DPA and a past member of a number of AAPG committees. He is a Senior Fellow of the Geological Society of America and an honorary trustee of the GSA Foundation, which he served as chairman from 1986 to 1988.

During their 63 years together Joy managed the home front, including 18 moves, raising four girls and three boys, and always maintaining her supportive optimism and enthusiasm for new challenges. For many years they both were active volunteers in hospice organizations in Dallas, Texas and Bend, Oregon, there Joy was a much-beloved and respected patient care volunteer.

Harry now resides in a retirement community north of Tucson, Arizona, where he pursues his continuing goal of shooting his age or better on the golf course (current total is 43 times). He greatly enjoys frequent visits from his seven children, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and assorted spouses. And each Fall, he and his buddies take prolonged off-road trips into the back country canyon lands of Utah searching out ancient rock ark sites, unusual geology and beautiful scenery.
