The annual TA meeting kicked off on Thursday night June 15 with a reception at the Brown Palace in Denver. In addition to TAs and their invited guests, we invited several local AAPG members to join us at the reception. We think this is one of the best ways to recruit new members and we intend to continue the practice of inviting TA candidates to our events.

You could call it destiny – Sabrina Ewald’s family history, after all, is dominated by those who either worked in the oil industry or were teachers. “These experiences shaped my plan for the future, and I always had two ideas of what I wanted to do with my life – geologist or teacher,” she said. Guess what won out?

Bradford “Brad” Burton is an associate professor in the Natural and Environmental Sciences Department at Western Colorado University (WCU) in Gunnison, Colo. He holds the Rady Chair in Petroleum Geology at WCU.

Rebekah Kienenberger, an Earth and space science teacher from Arete Preparatory Academy in Gilbert, Ariz., has been named as the 2020 American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Foundation’s Teacher of the Year.

The AAPG Foundation's 2019 Inspirational Geoscience Educator Award recipient, Brett Carpenter, was the Earth Science Week speaker at University of Tulsa's Geo Seminar. His research is a project that examines the elements that make pre-existing basement faults prone to earthquakes.
