The AAPG Foundation sponsored an opportunity for young professionals and students to attend the 2013 AAPG Rocky Mountain Section meeting and to take an educational field trip. The meeting and trip, organized by RMS and Utah Geological Survey, invited youth on a field trip the Sunday before the RMS meeting.

James Evans, Ph.D., teaches Structural Geology at the Utah State University College of Science in Logan, Utah. He is the recipient of the 2013 AAPG Foundation Professorial Award. The award was presented at the AAPG Rocky Mountain Section meeting by Michael D. Vanden Berg, president of the AAPG Rocky Mountain Section.

The Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program has a rich history of awarding aspiring geoscience professionals with grants needed to conduct essential geological research in the field. This program is intended to support graduate and post-graduate students in their geoscience field research. Past grant recipients have used scholarship funds to survey lands as far away as the Bogda Mountains of northwest China and as close as Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado, USA.
