The AAPG Foundation’s L. Austin Weeks Undergraduate Grant program annually awards deserving geoscience students and geoscience student organizations across the world with $500 in grant funds. These international grants support the educational expenses of undergraduate geoscience students and their associated student organizations.

The AAPG Foundation has worked steadily to shape a program that will support veterans in furthering and completing their geologic undergraduate education. Aptly named the U.S. Military Veterans Scholarship Program (MVSP), the program offers financial support for veterans who are returning from service, re-adapting to civilian life, and focusing on achieving a degree that will ultimately pave a way for a future career in the geosciences.

The number of Grants-in-Aid applications for this year’s cycle of awards once again was tremendous. The Foundation is awarding $239,000 to 121 master’s and doctoral students studying various fields of geoscience – more than any year before in number of dollars granted.

Joseph Satterfield, Ph.D., a geology professor at Angelo State University (ASU) in San Angelo, TX., has been selected to receive AAPG Foundation’s 2015 Professorial Award.

The AAPG Foundation is now accepting applications for its newest program - the U.S. Military Veterans Scholarship Program. This U.S.-based program affords the opportunity for veterans to apply for $2,000 - $4,000 in funds for tuition and cost of attendance to support their undergraduate pursuits in the geosciences.
