The L. Austin Weeks Undergraduate Grant program awards deserving geoscience students and their college or university departments with $1,000 in financial funding. The award is split between a nominated student and his or her department, each receiving $500.

The AAPG Foundation Trustees have named Bob Ardell and Mike Wisda as the 2014 Trustee Associates Service Award recipients. Awards will be presented at the 2014 Trustee Associates Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas in September.

The AAPG Foundation Trustees unanimously selected Charles “Chuck” Weiner as the 2014 Chairman’s Award recipient. The Chairman’s Award was the first award established by the AAPG Foundation. It is to be given to recognize persons who have made extraordinary contributions (monetary or service) to the AAPG Foundation, and also to call attention to the role and value of the Foundation.

Aaron P. Rodriguez, a second year M.S. student at the University of Idaho, received the 2013 David W. Worthington Family Named Grant, awarded annually to a student studying paleontology.

Nora Nieminski, a third year Ph.D. student at Stanford University, received the 2013 Mruk Family Named Grant, restricted as the Chairman’s Choice for Excellence through the Grants-in-Aid program.

David Lawrence is a director on the board of Stone Energy Corporation. He served as Executive Vice President Exploration and Commercial for Shell Upstream Americas and Functional Head of Global Exploration for Royal Dutch Shell worldwide from June 2009 until retiring from Shell in 2013.

Mahopac High School geosciences teacher Heather McArdle from Ossining, New York has been named the 2014 American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Foundation’s Teacher of the Year.

Applications and nominations are now being accepted for the 2014 Professorial Award. The Professorial award, given annually by the AAPG Foundation, will be granted to a college or university professor who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of geoscience education.
