Since 1967, the AAPG Foundation has promoted the geosciences by distributing technological information, recognizing outstanding achievements, and by funding grants, publications and other initiatives that support the preservation of data, training and career enhancement for current and future geoscientists.
Grants are given annually to provide financial assistance to graduate students (currently enrolled in Masters or Ph.D. programs) whose thesis research has application to the search for and development of petroleum and energy-mineral resources, and/or to related environmental geology issues.
Annually awards more than $85,000 in funds, providing undergraduate-level geoscience students and student-led geoscience organizations (student chapters, associations and clubs) with $500 grants to support their efforts.
Awards $2,500-$5,000 to both active U.S. Military service members (including National Guard and Reserve) or honorably discharged veterans to help with the costs of a postsecondary undergraduate education in a field of geoscience.
Awards $6,000 ($3,000 for school use under the teacher's supervision for educational purposes and $3,000 for personal use by the teacher) to a K-12 teacher within the United States who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of geoscience education.
This $6,000 award honors a college or university professor who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of geoscience education, inspiring students to love geoscience and motivate them to pursue geological careers.
AAPG Foundation initiatives promote Earth Science Curriculum in K-12 classrooms, send distinguished lecturers on tour throughout the world, coordinate college campus visits by professional geoscientists, and more.
AAPG is one of the top petroleum geoscience publishers in the world, from The AAPG Bulletin—our industry-leading, peer-reviewed technical journal—to a variety of special publications. Through the Foundation, we also fund university subscriptions to numerous geology publications.
Promoting the geosciences since 1967 by providing funding for a variety of educational and research programs that benefit the geologic profession and the general public.
